Take a look at the picture below. What you’re looking at is a delightful Mac + Wood farmhouse kitchen table made from reclaimed wood. That, however, only scratches the surface.
The wood itself has had a life already. It is “pre-loved” to use a trendy phrase. So where does reclaimed wood come from and why is it so good for making furniture such as this kitchen table?
Reclaimed or recycled wood can come from any number of sources. More common sources include former industrial buildings such as warehouses and factories. When these buildings are decommissioned or revamped, the wood is often salvaged and reused.
Other less obvious sources can include old mines and even wine barrels. Not, however, that we’ve managed to turn an old wine barrel into a table or bench (although there’s always a first time!).
So why would you want to buy a table, bench or desk made from reclaimed timber? A quick look at this blog reveals the most obvious reason; no two pieces of reclaimed timber are the same.
The knots, the grain and all the natural inconsistencies you find in the wood make for a unique piece of reclaimed wood furniture. Combine this with our fine styling and what you get is an amazing item that you will actually want in your home.
There are also environmental benefits to buying bespoke furniture made from recycled wood. We wrote about this at length in our last blog post so won’t go into detail here. Suffice it to say that trees do not need to be felled when we make our furniture. Also, trees are home to a large number of animals. Chop down the tree, and you make large numbers of creatures homeless.
Whether you need a table for hosting large family meals, a desk for working at or a bench for sitting on, get in touch. We would love to help you. Just think, you may be giving something from a former factory a whole new lease of life.
